Terrorism and hate propaganda: an arrest in Kingsey Falls – La Nouvelle Union

The RCMP recently made two arrests, including one in Kingsey Falls, as part of an investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement (INSET).

In April 2020, information had been gathered on two people suspected of being involved in the activities of the Terrorist Group Atomic Weapons Division and linked to neo-Nazi ideology.

Patrick Gordon Macdonald, a 26-year-old Ottawa resident, faces three counts under the Criminal Code: involvement in the activities of a terrorist group, aiding and abetting terrorist activities, and offenses in favor of a terrorist group (deliberate promotion of hatred).

“This is the first case in Canada in which an individual representing a violent far-right ideology has been charged with both terrorism and hate propaganda,” the RCMP said.

Patrick Gordon Macdonald appeared at the Ottawa Courthouse on July 5. The second person arrested in Kingsey Falls could face charges at a later date. Radio-Canada says part of the investigation is still ongoing.

“The RCMP remains committed to countering ideologically motivated violent extremism. Multiple partners work together to counter all forms of violent extremism and propaganda by groups classified as terrorist entities in Canada. Public cooperation is critical to addressing this major issue, which is a national priority,” the RCMP press release said. (AWAY)
