The plane, a Cessna C550, crashed around 4:15 a.m. local time near Murrieta Airport, southeast of Los Angeles, the US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) told AFP.

Police dispatched to the scene discovered “a completely aflame airplane in a field” and were able to locate the six occupants, who were still pronounced dead at the scene, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Services said in a press release, where Murietta is.

The plane took off from Las Vegas International Airport, the FAA said.

Its crash caused a small fire that was quickly contained, firefighters added.

According to local media, thick fog had gathered in the area.
