As a plane was being prepared to take off for Liverpool from the city of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, the pilot announced that 20 passengers would have to disembark the plane for safety reasons. According to the Chron, the 19 volunteers each collected 500 euros in compensation.

Passengers on a flight from Lanzarote (Spain) to Liverpool (UK) experienced an unlikely accident on the evening of July 5th.

On a packed EasyJet plane returning from the Canary Islands, English passengers received a startling announcement from the pilot, according to the Chron, transmitted by The Independent. “The plane is too heavy to take off,” he told them. “Since safety is paramount, there is no way to get this aircraft airborne in the current wind conditions. There are a number of factors: it’s very hot, the wind isn’t fantastic, the direction isn’t excellent,” he then listed in complete transparency.

Then, to solve the problem, he offered an unexpected solution, which can be heard in a video published on the social network TikTok: “I would like to ask up to 20 volunteers to choose not to fly to Liverpool tonight.” According to the Chron, 19 have accepted the offer. The deal shouldn’t have been too bad for them as they were able to board the next plane bound for Liverpool.

500 euros donated to volunteers

In return, each of them was entitled to compensation of 500 euros. The case was not without consequences for the passengers of the flight, as the take-off planned for 9:45 p.m. could not take place until 11:30 p.m. They finally landed in Liverpool at 3am. In complete safety, since the 19 volunteers had just left the plane.
