Universitario and Sporting Cristal met their possible rivals in the round of 16 of the 2023 Copa Sudamericana this Wednesday, July 5, should they make it through the playoffs. The creams have to be measured against Corinthians; and if they win, they meet Newell’s from Argentina. For their part, the Celestials will face Emelec; and if they advance, they will play against defense and justice.
Both teams are the only representatives of Peruvian football at international level, leaving many fans wondering what would have to happen for the two League 1 clubs to meet in the South Americana.
