Leylah Annie Fernandez was also eliminated in the women’s doubles

Three days after being eliminated in singles, Quebec’s Leylah Annie Fernandez suffered the same fate in women’s doubles at Wimbledon on Sunday.

Together with her partner, the American Taylor Townsend, she lost 6: 4, 6: 7 (6) and 6: 3 to the French Caroline Garcia and the Brazilian Luisa Stefani. That’s a bit of a surprise considering Fernandez and Townsend were the sixth seeded players in this category of the prestigious competition. The losers failed to take advantage of the four break points offered to them.

It is also the second time Garcia has defeated the Montrealers as the latter defeated them in singles in the second round.

Fernandez’s Grand Slam tournament isn’t over yet, however, as she competes in mixed doubles with Dutchman Wesley Koolhof. They will face Britain’s Jonny O’Mara and Olivia Nicholls in the round of 16 on Monday.
