Noise pollution: a couple from Montérégie live in hell –

A water treatment plant in the township of Noyan, Montérégie is a real ordeal for a couple who live nearby.

For two years, the couple has constantly heard the noise of machines at work, which are only a few meters from their home.

“It’s an annoying noise that goes on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is certainly a lot of ambient noise here, but noise like that gets really annoying,” laments Ms. Christine Dufresne in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

“We’ve taken to turning the TV on much louder to hear TV shows. “People coming home ask themselves how we manage to endure such a noise,” she explains, by way of example.

Even in the showdown between them and the community, the couple has the impression of going it alone.

“We try to change things, we try to contact the community, but we never come back,” laments Ms. Dufresne.

The couple hears the noise even though the windows are closed. Annoyed, Madame Dufresne even decided to change rooms.

“Even in this room I sleep with earplugs because the sound is too loud,” she explains.

The municipality has taken noise abatement measures, but they have not had the effect the couple hoped.

“We had to send a formal message to get answers,” she said.
