The Muppets house band have their own show on Disney Plus

While much of Disney’s recent success with The Muppets has come in films like The Muppet Haunted Mansion, the studio is gearing up for another series that will see puppet performers team up with a human friend.

Disney today announced plans for The Muppets Mayhem, a new show from The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg starring Canadian Lilly Singh alongside Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the Muppets’ longtime house band.

Co-produced and written by Goldberg, longtime puppeteer Bill Barretta and Geoff Yorkes, The Muppets Mayhem will follow Dr. Tooth (Baretta) and the band will attempt to record their first full album under the direction of Nora (Singh), a young A&R executive. The show will also be executive produced by David Lightbody of The Muppets Studios. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lightbody noted that while “Doctor Teeth” and “Electric Mayhem” have been part of The Muppets since the beginning, the new show should be the first to specifically focus on them.

“We’re thrilled to bring the story of The Electric Mayhem Band to the forefront of this new series,” said Lightbody. “They’ve been entertaining audiences since The Muppets debuted 45 years ago, so it’s great that these characters are finally playing lead roles and not supporting roles.”

There is currently no word on when The Muppets Mayhem will release on Disney Plus.
