As expected, the Quebec Department of Transportation on Tuesday morning began dismantling the homeless encampment that had been set up for several years under the Ville-Marie freeway near downtown Montreal.

The MTQ confirms that the evacuation of the campers is necessary to carry out major works on the structure of the viaduct.
Community organizations helping the homeless say solutions have been found to house seven of them, but ten others are still waiting for a home amid a housing crisis.
On Tuesday morning, some campers were busy gathering their belongings to stow them in containers provided by MTQ.

Then at 9am a loader entered the site to complete the site clearing.
Demonstrators carried a banner reading “No to evictions” and chanted slogans, while several police officers barred the media from entering the camp.
