Hockey Canada 2018 scandal: teams expected suspensions

The conclusions of the 2018 investigation into the Team Canada Junior players scandal could soon be known and could affect multiple National Hockey League (NHL) teams.

At least, that’s what Daily Faceoff hockey pundit Frank Seravalli said during an episode of The DFO Rundown podcast Monday. According to him, clubs would prepare their formations for possible suspensions.

“I believe we are nearing closure and an announcement regarding the investigation into the Canadian team that competed in the 2018 World Junior Championships. It looks like it will be soon,” he said.

In April 2022, a civil lawsuit against Hockey Canada, filed by a woman who said she was raped by eight members of the 2018 World Juniors team, rocked the federation.

Many of this installment’s players now play in the National League, including Cale Makar, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Carter Hart, former Montreal Canadiens Victor Mete and Quebec’s Maxime Comtois.

In early June, NHL Assistant Commissioner Bill Daly said the league’s investigator had completed its review. The results are due to be announced later this summer.
