The France announced This Tuesday (July 11, 2023) Ukraine is to be supplied with longrange missiles. The move will allow Ukrainian troops to more easily attack Russia’s supply and supply networks. The announcement came on the first day of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
French President Emmanuel Macron comments on his Twitter profile he said that SCALP missiles are needed to “give the Ukrainians the ability to conduct indepth attacks on Russian troops.”
According to information from Portal, the armament should come from French military stocks. The amount was not disclosed, but a military source in the country said it was a “significant number”.
Germany is also expected to announce an additional arms package worth nearly $770 million during the NATO summit. Among the weapons are 40 armored vehicles and 25 Leopard tanks.
The leaders of the military alliance are meeting in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, to discuss, among other things, Ukraine’s candidacy and military support. The issue was one of the issues already discussed during the North Atlantic Council session this Tuesday morning (July 11).
The military organization planned to issue a statement on the matter, but Zelenskyy was not present.
The Ukrainian leader was invited to attend the event and arrived in Vilnius on Tuesday (July 11). He is expected to take part in the summit on Wednesday (July 12), which will host the session of the socalled NATOUkraine Council.
Zelenskyi expected to receive an invitation for the country to join the alliance during the summit. However, NATO officials such as US President Joe Biden, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace advocate Ukraine’s accession only after the end of the war with Russia.
