Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen even top the NFL MVP ratings. But where is Jalen Hurts? – The athlete

Frontrunner in the 2023 NFL MVP race? Keep an eye on the AFC as the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, the Bengals’ Joe Burrow and the Bills’ Josh Allen are tied at the latest odds for the award, released via BetMGM on Tuesday morning. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The quarterback trio is currently at +700, having tied at +650 at the start of the offseason at the top of the race.
  • Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is fourth at +900. The Eagles’ Jalen Hurts has the best odds of any NFC player – he’s fifth overall at +1100, which is slightly worse than his opening +1000 rating.
  • Raven’s QB Lamar Jackson is next at +1400. Then there’s a four-way tie to round out the top 10 at +1600 between the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence, the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers, the Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa and the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott.

Below is a look at the latest NFL MVP odds. Odds for the remaining NFL non-MVP awards follow. (These odds are live, so numbers will change accordingly):

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

Where is the love for hurts?

For Hurts to be fifth according to oddsmakers seems like a bargain. The Eagles quarterback finished second to Burrow and Allen last season. Hurts would be back in the mix if the Eagles finished the regular season as the NFC No. 1 pick. He could have made the race tighter last year if he hadn’t missed a few games towards the end of the season. And the fact that he’s below Herbert is wild to me.

Watch out for Rodgers

Any sort of upsurge in the Jets is credited to the addition of Rodgers. That means he would grab all the headlines, which should draw the MVP’s attention to the four-time award winner. The pieces appear to be available all about Rodgers for the former Packers quarterback to thrive in New York. But how will Rodgers deal with *New York*?

Where are the non-QBs?

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the highest-ranked non-quarterback in the race at +10,000. That ties to the Cardinals’ Kyler Murray, Raiders’ Jimmy Garoppolo, Commanders’ Sam Howell, and Titans’ Ryan Tannehill. That also puts Jefferson 24 quarterbacks ahead, including players like the Packers’ Jordan Love, Patriots’ Mac Jones, Steelers’ Kenny Pickett and 49ers’ Trey Lance. I know MVP has basically become a quarterback award, but come on!
