The body of a headless baby was found early Monday morning on a beach in Roda de Berà, south of Barcelona, Spain, the daily El Pais reported on Tuesday.
“A worker saw what appeared to be a two or three-year-old child in the sand,” Pere Virgili, the city’s mayor, told Spanish media.

As the baby was found in an advanced state of decomposition, it is not possible to identify it at this time.
“Not dressed for the beach”
A first witness explains that he initially mistook the body for an abandoned doll because the body looked immobile.
Initial elements of the investigation show that these remains of a young boy came from the sea. “One of the hypotheses is that it could be the ‘Mare Mortum’,” explains the city’s mayor, referring to the many migrants who perish trying to cross the Mediterranean.
The Spanish city council adds that the baby “was not dressed for the beach”. According to him, he wore “a kind of tracksuit” and “a jacket”.
Another disturbing fact: a week ago, a woman’s dismembered body was found on a beach in Tarragona, just south of this macabre discovery. At this stage of the investigation, there is no connection between the two cases.
