One of Tennessee’s top orthopedic surgeons was reportedly murdered Tuesday in a clinic by an angry patient, Collierville police confirm.
According to authorities, 29-year-old Larry Pickens waited “several hours” for his victim in an exam room at Campbell Orthopedic Clinic. He then allegedly shot and killed 43-year-old surgeon Benjamin Mauck before fleeing, Fox News said.
The police arrested him outside, a few meters from the clinic. The alleged killer did not attack the other patients and staff present inside.
The man is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Collierville police did not disclose the motive. However, Pickens was reportedly spotted threatening staff at the same clinic earlier in the week.
