The BBC employee embroiled in a scandal over alleged sexual misconduct has been identified by his wife as veteran presenter Huw Edwards. “I am making this statement on behalf of my husband, Huw Edwards, after five extremely difficult days for our family,” said Vicky Flind on Wednesday. The husband suffers from “serious psychological problems” and is now “being admitted to the hospital, where he will remain for the foreseeable future”.
For their part, London police announced on Wednesday night that there was no evidence that a crime had been committed in the case. Therefore, the police do not go further in the case. Flind announced that as soon as her husband was able to do so, he would comment on the reports.
The Sun newspaper quoted a woman on Friday as saying an unnamed BBC presenter had paid her 17-year-old son tens of thousands of pounds over a three-year period for pornographic photos. On Sunday, the BBC said it had released the official. In recent days, new accusations of misconduct have been made.
Huw Edwards’ name was already circulating massively online before his wife’s statement. The 61-year-old man moderates the 10 pm news in Great Britain – he was also the one who announced to the world the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II last October.
Before the Welshman was identified by his wife, some colleagues had also commented on the case. BBC star Jeremy Vine has asked a TV show host to make his identity public to avoid further damage to the network’s reputation. A former BBC employee described the presenter in a podcast as “extremely angry” at media reports of the case.
