Watch the trailer for Ru, the adaptation of Kim Thúy’s autobiographical novel 7 Days.

The first trailer for Ruan adaptation of Kim Thúy’s autobiographical novel, was unveiled Wednesday morning.

Directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud (Anna) and written by Jacques Davidts (Les mecs), Ru tells the story of a young Vietnamese refugee adjusting to his new life in Quebec after leaving his country in the midst of the crisis fled in the 1970s to avoid persecution.

The film is inspired by Kim Thúy’s autobiographical novel of the same name, which was published by Libre Expression in 2009 and has sold more than 540,000 copies worldwide.

“Charles-Olivier has made a film that far exceeds my wildest cinematic dreams. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the entire team for daring to be amazing,” Kim Thúy said in a press release issued on Wednesday.

It is the young actress Chloé Djandji who will step into the shoes of the young heroine of Ru. She will notably be surrounded by Chantal Thuy, Jean Bui, Olivier Dinh, Xavier Nguyen, Karine Vanasse and Patrice Robitaille.

The film will be released on November 24th.
