The presenter, accused of bribery of minors, was awarded for his narration of the Queen’s funeral

On September 8, 2022, BBC programming was interrupted by a news call. One of Britain’s most famous and respected television journalists, Huw Edwards, appeared on screen to announce the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Days later he hosted broadcasts of the monarch’s funeral. In late June, he received a trophy at the TRIC Awards for his performance at the televised event. This should be his last public appearance. On the most traditional broadcaster on the planet, you will probably never see the moderator again.

He is now known to be the BBC journalist implicated in a scandal involving the purchase of intimate photos of teenagers, threatening messages and payments for nondisclosure. The station employee’s identity was kept secret until Huw’s wife came forward in an official statement.

“In light of recent reports of the ‘BBC presenter’, I am making this statement on behalf of my husband, Huw Edwards, after an extremely difficult few days for our family,” read an excerpt of the note, signed by Vicky Flind. “I’m doing this primarily out of concern for their mental wellbeing and to protect our children.”

She said her husband had been suffering from major depression for a number of years and was being hospitalized for treatment. He apologized to BBC journalists who had been the subject of speculation in the press and on social media as to who would be the anchor targeted by the serious allegations by four young people. At least one of them was a minor when he began exchanging erotic messages with the veteran journalist.

The moderator’s situation has deteriorated in recent hours. Allegations of “inappropriate behavior” against colleagues surfaced on television. Born in Wales, Huw Edwards, 61, is a father of five and a selfdeclared practicing Christian. He started working for the BBC in 1984. He presented the station’s most important news programs. His annual salary is £440,000 which is R$230,000 per month.
