The South Korean Parasite and the original Ghostbusters are highlights of HBO Max’s releases over the past week

In a somewhat lukewarm news week, HBO Max rolled out some great additions to its catalog to cheer up subscribers. is among them parasitethe 2019 South Korean film that won the 2020 Oscar. The feature film won four categories, including Best Film and Best Director, and was the first foreign language production to win the top prize in world cinema.

Directed by Bong Joon Ho, the plot revolves around the financial difficulties of the Kitaek family, whose members are unemployed and living in what is kind of a cramped and unhealthy basement. The teenage son tries to change his life and gets a job teaching English to a wealthy girl.

Delighted by the wealth of the girl’s family and the luxury of the house she lives in, the other Kitaek hatch a plan to invade the mansion as well. It turns out that what initially seemed like a good idea soon turns into chaos without proportion.

Ditch the drama for a bit and opt for a lighter and more enjoyable production, fans of the franchise The Ghostbusters can celebrate because the two original chapters of the saga have also arrived on HBO Max. The critically acclaimed storyline follows a group of scientists as they investigate paranormal cases at the hands of the exterminator Ghostbusters, a company they have just founded. The first film, released in 1984, was directed by Ivan Reitman and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis three comedy icons of the decade.

 

Fiction aside, the series might be of interest to those who like true crime productions. School Massacre The Tragedy of the Realengo Girlswhich addresses the events of the day of the attack and raises questions about gun ownership, online hatred, misogyny and other factors that contributed to the 2011 massacre in Rio de Janeiro.
