An awkward schedule for the Alouettes

VANCOUVER — Head coach Jason Maas is undeceived: he knows full well that the challenge for the Alouettes against the Toronto Argonauts at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday will be enormous. Hardly back from Vancouver, in the night from Sunday to Monday, Montreal only has a few days left for the turning point.

“And we have to do that against a great opponent, a team coming back after a week’s absence [bye week]Maas said after the 35-19 loss to the BC Lions.

This is definitely not the most convenient part of the Alouettes’ schedule.

“Obviously I don’t think anyone would want a short week,” said the head coach. We’d all like more time to prepare, but that’s the way it is. We will quickly look at the videos of the game [contre les Lions] and get into the spirit of defending our territory at home.”

Redeem quickly?

Wide receiver Tyler Snead, who had just played his first career game in the CFL, was also in the lead with the Argos.

“The good thing about the short week is that we have an opportunity to recover from this loss quickly, but we need to prepare quickly for the Toronto game,” noted Snead.

“It was a wonderful experience, but I wish we had won,” he said of his baptism in the CFL.

A 44-yard game

Individually, Snead did fairly well, catching four passes for 61 yards on five occasions. He notably made a 44-yard play from a throw from quarterback Cody Fajardo, followed by a long run.

“We’ve had good rehearsals for the last week,” Snead commented. Cody threw the ball well, the execution was perfect. It was a great game for us, but it wasn’t about a win here either.”

“I liked seeing how the team kept fighting despite being behind,” Maas concluded. We ended up with a third deficit at the eight-yard line in the fourth quarter… We couldn’t capitalize on it, but we threatened to come back from behind.
