How Anglophile Margot Robbie loves the Tube, a pint at Clapham Common and Love Island

Margot Robbie confirmed her Anglophilia yesterday when she met the Love Island stars at the Barbie premiere in London – while fans flocked from McDonald’s, TGI Fridays and Slug and Lettuce to catch a glimpse of her.

The 33-year-old has long spoken of her love of all things British – not least her time in Clapham, south-west London, enjoying al fresco beers, wild house parties and sweaty nights at Infernos, the notorious local nightclub.

The Australian, who is married to a Brit, is also a huge fan of British reality TV — so much so that she once threw a Love Island-themed birthday party. At last night’s Barbie afterparty, she was spotted fangirling again, snapping selfies with Ekin-Su Culcologlu, Davide Sanclimenti, Liberty Poole and Danica Taylor.

Season 8 winner Ekin-Su shared a carousel of snaps with Margot on Instagram that night as they posed in front of the Barbie logo.

She captioned a selfie, “We queens,” before uploading a full-length picture of both with the caption “I can’t” above it and a smiling and crying face emoji.

Ekin-Sus’ ex-boyfriend Davide, 28, also managed to take selfies with Margot, writing: “I’m a Barbie man, in a Barbie world.”

Margot previously revealed that she thought the couple’s season was the “best Love Island season ever,” adding, “Paige [Thorne] Was probably my favorite – but just for fun, I think Davide and Ekin-Su nailed the season.”

Explaining her love for the show, she added, “Love Island reminds me of life in London — watching the show with my girlfriends, when everyone was coming home from work.”

Margot’s former home in Clapham, affectionately nicknamed ‘The Manor’ by its residents, was a behemoth of parties and heavy drinking – followed by excursions in the afternoon sun.

It was there that Margot began her relationship with her husband, Surrey-born filmmaker Tom Ackerley, and experienced what she calls “the best of times”.

The lease for the property was originally signed in early 2014, shortly after the release of the film that would make her famous – Martin Scorcese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street, in which she played seductress Naomi Lapaglia alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

“I was like a naughty schoolgirl,” she told Vanity Fair. “It was my first real time living in London and I wanted to try every pub. I’m not just going to look that skinny.”

Another photo on her friend’s Instagram account shows Margot posing at the South West Four, an electronic dance festival on Clapham Common.

She’s even admitted to being a regular at cheesy local nightclub Infernos, known for its tacky dance floor and playlist of cheesy 1990s music.

But Margot has always insisted that her pleasures are far more earthly. In a 2017 interview with London luxury lifestyle magazine The Resident, she lauded the unlikely joys of life in Clapham.

“For me, the place where you live and what you do has to be simple and comfortable, otherwise how could you relax?” she said.

“Clapham has always felt humble, in the sense that you’re just left alone to move on with who you are, and that’s perfect.” But I like living with a lot of people. It reminds me of the house I grew up in.

“It’s funny — I always think I want privacy because I’m never actually alone.” But when I’m, I hate it. After five minutes I find people to spend time with.”

Margot has even opened up about her love for one of London’s most controversial places – the tube.

Speaking at the UK premiere of Babylon in January, she told The Mirror: “I’ve got two Oyster cards in my wallet right now.” “I always take the tube.”

And when asked if she’d ridden the latest Elizabeth line, which opened last year, she replied: “I haven’t, but I’ve heard it’s lovely!”

In December 2016, Margot married Tom Ackerley at a private property in Coorabell, Byron Bay.

The following year, the duo moved from London to a lavish 3,300-square-foot, four-bedroom, six-bathroom apartment in Los Angeles.

Now that she’s in the US, it’s possible that Margot might meet one of her longtime friends – Prince Harry.

Speaking about their friendship in 2020, she said, “He’s a really great guy … I know as well as anyone what a big decision it is to move halfway across the world.”

She continued, “I still miss London a lot, but I had my reasons for moving and they have their reasons for the decision.”

She previously joked about letting him down with text messages.

“Actually, he’s pretty fast at writing. Unlike me. “I’ll text back four days later, sometimes weeks later,” she told Extra.
