The Arizona Coyotes took steps to ditch forward Alex Galchenyuk on Thursday, less than two weeks after welcoming him back to the team for a third time.

Galchenyuk, who signed a contract with the team on Free Agency’s opening day July 1, was arrested July 9 for hit-and-run, disorderly conduct, disobedience, resisting arrest, threats or intimidation, according to the Scottsdale, Ariz. newspaper police department. A spokesman said the hit and run was property damage only and there were no injuries.

The coyotes said They demanded unconditional waivers from Galchenyuk to terminate his contract and declined to comment further.

The 29-year-old Galchenyuk, who was drafted No. 3 overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012, signed a two-way, one-year contract that netted him $775,000 in the NHL and $225,000 in the American Hockey League.

He previously played for the Coyotes in the 2018–19 and 2021–22 seasons.

Last season, he played 11 games for the Colorado Avalanche and 42 for their AHL affiliate. The Avalanche traded him to Nashville for Ryan Johansen and the Predators allowed him to switch to the free hand.

Galchenyuk, who has 354 points in 654 career games, would become an unrestricted free agent upon termination of his contract.
