Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death has been revealed: Star died of an obstruction in the small intestine

Lisa Marie Presley died in January at the age of 54 from a blockage in the small intestine – opioids were found in her blood at the time of her death.

Elvis Presley’s daughter was hospitalized on January 12 after suffering a cardiac arrest. A report from the LA County Coroner found that the star died as a result of complications (a condition resulting from a previous illness or injury) from an obstruction in the small intestine.

The intestinal obstruction took the form of a strangulated small intestine and was caused by adhesions that had developed after bariatric surgery (stomach clips) many years earlier.

Toxicology results also show that Lisa had “therapeutic” levels of oxycodone in her blood, while also finding a second opioid, buprenorphine, used to treat opioid addiction.

There were also traces of quetiapine, an antipsychotic, reports TMZ.

Lisa Marie, a singer-songwriter with three studio albums between 2003 and 2012, had attended the 80th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles with her mother, Priscilla, just two days before her death.

The mother-daughter duo attended the awards ceremony, showing their support for Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed Elvis biopic (2022), in which Austin Butler played the legendary King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.

During her walk down the event’s red carpet, Lisa Marie appeared frail and fragile, leading her to rely on longtime family friend Jerry Schilling, who is now 81.

While being interviewed by Billy Bush for Extra, she linked Schilling’s arm and told him, “I’m going to grab your arm.”

Both ladies were very open and honest and praised Luhrmann’s biopic, which was about Elvis’ 20+ year relationship with his manager Col. Tom Parker and Butler’s performance as Elvis.

Ten days after her death, hundreds of people attended a public memorial service at Graceland in Memphis on Jan. 22, and more than 1.5 million people also streamed the service live.

Lisa Marie welcomed daughter Riley and son Benjamin with her ex-husband Danny Keough, to whom she was married from 1988 to 1994. Benjamin died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 27.

In 2008, she gave birth to twin daughters Harper and Finley with then-husband Michael Lockwood, but the couple divorced in 2016.

Lisa Marie’s life has been turbulent, with five stints in rehab for cocaine and opioid abuse, four failed marriages – including one to Michael Jackson – as well as the loss of her son to suicide and a bitter custody battle over her twin girls with her falsely accused ex-husband, having child pornography. Sources told TMZ that Lisa Marie was found lifeless in her bedroom by her housekeeper and that her ex-husband, Danny Keough, who she was living with, was performing CPR until paramedics arrived.

The source added that “at least once someone at the scene administered epinephrine” — better known as epinephrine — to help Lisa Marie get a pulse back.

According to the Mayo Clinic, stomach pain is a symptom of cardiac arrest in women.

Adrenaline or epinephrine is given to treat many life-threatening conditions such as cardiac arrest, asthma attacks, and allergic reactions.

The LA County Sheriff’s Department told : “Lost Hills Station officers were responding to a call for help from the LA County Fire near Block 9500 of Normandy Drive in Calabasas regarding an adult female, approximately 55 years old, for a medical breathing emergency.

The officer would not confirm if the person was Lisa Marie – who was just weeks from her 55th birthday – what hospital the person was transported to and what she was being given.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that firefighters responded and were able to take the woman’s pulse before transporting her to West Hills Hospital.

Lisa Marie was trying to lose weight for Elvis awards season and even took opioids in the weeks leading up to her death, family sources reported.

The star underwent cosmetic surgery two months before the Golden Globes and lost up to 50 pounds as part of a strict regimen, insiders told TMZ.

Lisa Marie previously struggled with an opioid addiction after being put on a short-term prescription during her recovery from the birth of her twin daughters, Harper Vivienne and Finley, in 2008.

By 2013, she was a heavy cocaine user and went to rehab at least five times.

An opioid overdose is known to trigger cardiac arrest, and after an extended period of cleanliness after an addiction, the body’s tolerance to the drugs is far less.

It’s not clear what weight-loss drugs Lisa Marie was taking, but Wegovy, the newest weight-loss drug on the market, has enjoyed tremendous popularity since FDA approval.

She was thought to have been sober for the past few years, but after the death of their son, her ex-husband Michael Lockwood said he feared she might relapse.

As a teenager, she rebelled against drugs between the ages of 13 and 17, but her mother took her to The Castle, a Scientology center in Hollywood, to get her off drugs.

“I’ve done everything but shrooms and heroin or crack,” she said.

“Cocaine, tranquilizers, marijuana and alcohol – all at the same time… I don’t know how I survived that.”

“One day I woke up with a lot of people on the floor. I drove to the Church of Scientology myself and said, “Someone… help me right now.”

It worked for a while, and Lisa Marie said she’s been drug free since she was 17.

Lisa Marie’s death sparked a dispute between Riley and Priscilla over ownership of the estate.

In a recently signed settlement, Priscilla, 78, agreed – in exchange for $1.4 million plus an undisclosed sum for ten years – to relinquish control of her late daughter’s Promenade Trust, leaving behind the 34-year-old Riley, star of the TV series “Daisy Jones and the”. Six, as sole trustee.

The settlement between Priscilla and Riley settled an alleged feud between the two that was sparked when Priscilla filed a legal challenge to her daughter’s will – which stripped Priscilla of control of her wealthy Promenade Trust – just two weeks after Lisa Marie’s death in January and had handed it over to Riley.

Riley is said to have been furious when her grandmother went to court to protest the will.

But in her request for sealing, Priscilla dismissed the idea of a feud and said she fired the attorneys who filed her request to contest the will.

“My January 2023 petition was misinterpreted in the press as a ‘fight’ for my beloved daughter’s trust,” she wrote. “It wasn’t the intention.” The petition was filed by a law firm that has since closed.

“I submitted the petition to dispel any potential uncertainties surrounding the interpretation of the Promenade Trust.

“My daughter’s death was both devastating and heartbreaking.

“We’ve learned that fans recognize that we’re Just A Family. Elvis would be proud and his and Lisa’s wishes are the most important thing to all of us.

“My granddaughter has worked diligently and tirelessly with her own attorney along with my team to resolve all misunderstandings as a family.”

Riley also agreed to seal the private financial arrangement she made with her grandmother — which includes paying a certain amount (redacted in the court document) “per year for 10 years or for life” to Priscilla as the trust’s special counsel, plus $1 million and $300,000 to $400,000 in legal fees.

Their settlement also grants Priscilla’s wish to be buried at Graceland, Elvis’ home in Memphis, Tennessee.

The latest transaction involving the Santa Monica, California native came after she and her grandmother Priscilla, 78, reached a settlement in May, when attorneys for both parties announced in a Los Angeles probate court that a settlement had been reached had been achieved.

After months of tough litigation, Keough “doesn’t want any drama with her grandmother,” sources close to the actress said.

“Riley is relieved to have settled the dispute over her mother’s estate,” a source told People.

“She now wants to focus on creating memories with her own daughter.” That’s her priority.’

It was reported that Priscilla and Lisa Marie “hardly spoke” shortly before her death after Priscilla sided with Lockwood over custody of the twins.

Multiple sources told People that the mother and daughter haven’t spoken to each other, despite appearing at several events together, including the premiere of the Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler.
