“On the way preach and say that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons.
The preaching asked of us is based on nearness: The kingdom of heaven is near. But it is also a sermon that touches life decisively: heal, cleanse, expel. Healing serves to alleviate the suffering that often accumulates in our lives and no longer lets us see the light, the good, the meaning.
Purification has to do with the sense of unworthiness, distance, and wrong that sometimes leads us to hate ourselves so much that we hurt ourselves.
“Chasing away” is the most eloquent verb against evil. In fact, there are things in life that you can’t compromise on, but you have to find the courage to push away, cut, remove. The entire Christian life takes place in this pedagogy of closeness, which soothes, redeems and liberates.
“Freely you have received, freely you give. Do not bring gold or silver or money in your belts, nor in your knapsack, nor in two tunics, nor in sandals, nor in your staffs, for those who work have a right to their food .”
Gratitude is what characterizes Christian action above all. The love of God is free, it cannot be bought or sold, it must not be earned or obtained through religious performances, and at the same time every Christian who wants to preach the gospel must be able to offer the same experience of God’s love.
One aspect of gratuitousness is trust in Providence: heal, cleanse, cast out.

If we don’t act, our words aren’t credible because they’re stale. If one does not speak, there is a risk that the message remains hostage to the ‘unsaid’. If our words are not mixed with charity, with caring for the poor, with those held hostage to sickness and evil, it is just an exercise in rhetoric. The evangelization that matters is free: “He who has received freely gives freely.” […] Read more here.
