Lisa Marie Presley died of complications from weight loss surgery

Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis Presley’s only daughter, died in January after complications from bariatric weight-loss surgery, according to an autopsy report released Thursday.

The singer, who passed away suddenly at the age of 54, died of an intestinal obstruction caused by scar tissue that developed following bariatric surgery several years ago, Los Angeles health officials wrote in a press release.

This type of surgery aims to lose weight and consists of removing part of the stomach or putting on a gastric band in people who are obese or for whom diet and exercise do not bring results.

The cause of death was natural, specialists said.

Oxycodone found in the blood

An opiate, oxycodone, was also found in his blood in “therapeutic” and harmless amounts, as well as traces of another pain reliever and a substance used to treat depression, but American media said these did not contribute to his death.

The star, who has suffered from opiate and painkiller addictions in the past, was found unconscious at their home on January 12 by her ex-husband Danny Keough.

Mr. Keough, who also resided at the property in Calabasas, an affluent Los Angeles suburb, had performed a cardiac massage before paramedics arrived, according to American specialist website TMZ.

The singer was very close to her father, who named his private jet “Le Lisa Marie” in her honor, and was only nine when the king died.

Elvis’ toxicology reports then revealed elevated drug levels in the rock ‘n’ roll legend’s body.

Although Lisa Marie Presley released three albums over the course of her career, she never matched the immense success of her father, one of the most celebrated artists of all time.

During her lifetime, she retained control of Graceland, Elvis’ mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, which had become a place of pilgrimage for fans of the king.
