According to the man in charge of beach maintenance who discovered the child, the body had been lying on the beach since the day before, but no one had approached it, mistaking it for a doll. According to the mayor of Roda de Berà, the child could initially have been on a refugee boat that capsized in the Mediterranean Sea.

But this weekend a first autopsy gave his verdict: According to information from El Periodico, the body “spent between fifteen days and two months in the water”. The baby, “who was no more than 6 months old,” was a little girl. DNA testing still needs to be done to determine the child’s ethnicity. The Guardia Civil also examines the sea currents and lists recent shipwrecks to determine the whereabouts of the body.
