It seems that when traveling it is a king’s privilege to be able to express discerning wishes in order to ensure a comfortable stay.
But even the most discerning visitor might not have thought to bring the amenities said to be on King Charles’ list of travel essentials.
Investigative journalist Tom Bower previously claimed that King Charles does not travel light as one of his favorite luggage fillers appears to be his own toilet seat.
His biography of Prince Charles, “Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles,” suggests that before visiting a friend in the Northeast, Charles once sent a truckload of furniture to replace the decor in the guest rooms.
Investigative journalist Tom Bower claimed that Charles took his own toilet seat with him on a trip to the Northeast
The collection included his own orthopedic bed, linens, Laphroaig whiskey, bottled water and rolls of Kleenex Premium Comfort toilet paper, and his own toilet seat.
To feel even more at home, Charles is said to have packed two landscapes from the Scottish Highlands.
The king is said to have traveled with a number of staff which included a butler, two valets, a cook, a private secretary, a stenographer and bodyguards, one of whom was seen disembarking the plane with his pillow to ensure maximum comfort .
Even his security guard is said to have helped with the complicated organization, with his personal policeman bringing a bottle of a prepared martini, which they presented to the hosts’ butler along with Charles’ personal glass.
The requirements are not limited to drinks, however, and unlike the late Queen, who ate the same as the rest of her society, an aide would drop by a bag of Charles’ food during a meal, it is said.
The king responded to the claim during an interview on Australian radio in 2019 with “Don’t believe all that crap.”
His then communications director, Julian Payne, posted a comment from Australia on Twitter alongside a photo of Charles and Camilla greeting well-wishers and saying the couple had “0 personal toilet seats”.
But when Charles was asked in an interview on Australian radio in 2018 about claims that he was traveling with his own toilet seat, he shocked listeners with his brave response.
“My own what? “Oh, don’t believe all that crap,” he replied.
The Hit105 radio crew took the opportunity to double-check Charles’ response with his wife Camilla, asking: “So he doesn’t carry his own toilet seat when he travels?”
“Don’t believe that!” said the Queen Consort.
Charles’ then communications director Julian Payne visited Australia with Camilla for the opening of the Commonwealth Games and made sure Twitter broke the truth about the king’s travel habits.
Alongside a photo of Charles and Camilla being greeted by well-wishers in Brisbane, Payne wrote: “The Prince and Duchess’ journey through Australia and Vanuatu begins: 30 engagements, 7 days, 1 Commonwealth Games, 0 personal toilet seats.”
Tom Bower told the Chron: “I’m pleased to hear that Prince Charles has nothing to fear from Australian toilet seats.”
