Lewis Capaldi: Learn about his unique songwriting process

Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he spends most of his time “hating” himself when he’s writing songs.

During a recent appearance on the YouTube series Hot Ones, the Scottish singer revealed that he finds it awkward when writing his songs. “[…] When it comes to songwriting, people say it’s like catharsis, and it’s all a beautiful thing, but catharsis isn’t always pleasant or enjoyable, he said. I think I spend most of my time hating myself when I’m writing songs and yeah I think that’s ok, I think that’s cool. I think it is […] It’s my way of doing it.

The singer explained that he feels he also needs to put his fans through the “pain” of hearing his often heartbreaking songs. “I put the public in pain when they hear my music, so I feel like I should be in pain too,” shared the “Someone You Loved” singer.

The 26-year-old star recently revealed he will be taking a break to focus on his mental and physical health after struggling to finish his gig at Glastonbury due to Tourette’s Syndrome.
