According to US authorities, 59-year-old Rex Heuermann has been arrested and charged with the murders of three women. He is now the prime suspect in a serial murder case that has allegedly claimed 11 victims.
The man, who is from Long Island, New York, was reportedly identified by his DNA, which was found on a pizza crust in a discarded box.
The pizza box made a direct link to the “Gilgo Beach murder” case, which allegedly killed 11 people and whose remains were found more than a decade ago.
The object was believed to be linked to one of the victims, reported Megan Waterman, as reported by British daily The Mirror.
According to authorities, Rex Heuermann has been charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello.
Heuermann has reportedly been trying to follow the investigation for the past few months and has been “obsessively” scouring the internet for information about the Gilgo Beach killings. According to Suffolk County Attorney Ray Tierney, he specifically asked for the names of the women he is accused of killing and listened to podcasts and documentaries on the case.
