France condemns the EU’s warlike and interventionist stance

Paris, July 15 (Prensa Latina) The La Francia Insumisa (LFI) movement today condemned the bellicose and meddling behavior of some European Union (EU) institutions and authorities towards Latin America hosted in Brussels, during the forthcoming bi-regional summit.

In statements to Prensa Latina, LFI’s head of international relations, Christian Rodríguez, condemned maneuvers such as trying to force Latin American leaders to take sides in the conflict in Ukraine and meddling in Venezuela’s internal affairs.

On July 17th and 18th the III. Summit between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), a forum that returns for the first time since 2015 and will have the following topics on the agenda: ecological transition, digital transformation and sustainable development with a social focus.

“We are neither naïve nor under any illusions about this meeting, nor are we blind to the provocations staged from Europe to torpedo it,” warned a member of one of France’s main political forces.

According to Rodríguez, the actions of some in the EU are not helping to create an environment conducive to discussions that should be characterized by respect for the sovereignty of the parties.

When we talk about bi-regional ties and integration, they would only be desirable if they bring mutual benefits and if they are done without interference and with respect for independence, he stressed.

The head of international relations and close associate of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the Insumisos, told Prensa Latina that in this scenario, the People’s Summit represents an important event that will take place in parallel with the Leaders’ Forum.

The 2023 Brussels Summit of Peoples will represent a political space that will allow us to accompany the other Summit, but as I said, without naivety or false expectations, he said.

Rodríguez urged the EU to put things right, remembering that it is not the center of the world and to encourage exchanges and cooperation at its meeting with Latin America and the Caribbean.

“We intend to accompany the two regions on this path from the People’s Summit,” he said.

He also expressed that neither Europe nor Latin America should be a disastrous free trade area for peoples and the environment.

In the face of global geopolitical instability and the social and environmental urgency of our time, European countries must be spokespeople for peace and justice, and not the other way around, he said.
