Brussels, July 17 (Prensa Latina) The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, today in Brussels called for greater cooperation and investment between his country and the European Union (EU).
As part of the III. At the 2016 EU-Commonwealth of Latin American and Caribbean (Celac) Summit, which is concluding tomorrow in this capital, Lasso met with businessmen interested in expanding their business in the South American country.
Likewise, the President stressed efforts to achieve Schengen visa exemption for Ecuadorians.
After a meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the head of state reported on the coordination to expand cooperation with the EU on security, mobility and development issues.
Likewise, Lasso attended the joint statement of the European Union-Latin America and the Caribbean Digital Alliance along with other leaders of the region.
The initiative will encourage collaboration on issues such as digital policy, internet and data governance and connectivity.
Tomorrow, Lasso will speak at the EU Celac Summit activities at the thematic table “Facing Climate Change, Towards a Just and Sustainable Transition”.
Since its inception in 2011, Ecuador has been a member of this regional intergovernmental mechanism that promotes the integration and development of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The EU is now the largest foreign direct investor in the Andean country and the third largest trading partner after the USA and China. Ecuador’s exports to the EU amount to around four billion dollars.
