Finally, NFL running backs are starting to come together.
According to a league source, veteran running backs organized a group text chain in which they complained about the current market at the position — and pondered strategies to improve the situation.
The plan of action, as of Monday, was to take to social media to complain about the situation. Which some of them did.
That alone won’t help, but it’s important that the wheel squeaks as loudly as possible. They need to be heard. They need to get the media to do it on their behalf. You have to make the situation clear to the fans.
Ultimately, the league and the NFL Players Association need to recognize the problem and fix it.
That’s the real question. What will it take to get the NFL and NFLPA to prioritize the situation? To solve it?
We’ve mentioned many potential ideas over the past few months, from shortening the path to free agency to paying running backs from a league-wide fund based on mileage and touchdowns. None of this happens until someone capable of changing the status quo initiates the process.
