Back to school: A store offers to buy it at 1991 prices

A shop is offering to buy school supplies at the same prices as they did in the 1990s to help parents whose wallets are at risk of being damaged by inflation as they prepare for the start of the school year.

Bureau en Gros offers around forty products in this series at retro prices, from erasers to notebooks and wireless mice.

A pack of four Hilroy exercise books is therefore being offered for 79 cents instead of the current price of $1.29.

The pack of 10 pencils is priced at 44 cents instead of $1.19, while the plastic case is advertised at $2.99 instead of $3.99.

“Prices advertised, referred to as ’90s prices’, are representative only and generally reflect the prices of certain similar back-to-school items in this category that Staples/Bureau en Gros sold in the 1990s based on a review of the prices then in effect,” the company stated at the bottom of its website.

“No disclosure is made of inflationary effects, other retail prices or other factors that may have affected prices in the 1990s or today,” it said.

Remember that Bureau en Gros was founded in 1991.
