For two days (and two midnight hours), Taylor Swift will serve as honorary mayor of Santa Clara, and the city will be ceremonially renamed “Swiftie Clara” based on a proposal being considered by the Santa Clara City Council tonight.
Update (July 18, 4:40 p.m.): Apparently interested in attracting some of that sweet Swiftie tourist dollar to San Francisco, District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey has just introduced a board resolution declaring July 28-29 “Taylor Swift Weekend” in San Francisco Francisco explained. At this point I mean it’s exhausting, you know?
Contemporary politicians are showering themselves with declarations of love and loyalty to pop hit machine Taylor Swift and her record-breaking cash cow Eras Tour. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has publicly asked Swift to make her trip to the Great White North. Here in the US, elected officials are investigating Ticketmaster for repeatedly botching ticket sales for the Eras Tour. And as the Eras Tour prepares to roll into Levi’s Stadium on July 28-29, Bay Area News Group is reporting that the city of Santa Clara is considering nominating Swift as honorary mayor of Santa Clara and ceremoniously honoring the city’s name to “Swiftie Clara” for those two days.
This is an actual, official government decree and Hoodline has obtained a copy of the proclamation, see below. The measure has already been approved and signed by the real Mayor of Santa Clara, Lisa Gillmor, and will be considered by the entire Santa Clara City Council at 6 p.m. tonight. The matter is under item 2B of the agenda.

“By virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, and on behalf of the Santa Clara City Council, [I] Do hereby declare Taylor Swift Honorary Mayor for the period from Friday, July 28, 2023 to Saturday, July 29, 2023 and the city name will be changed to SWIFTIE CLARA for ceremonial purposes only, to celebrate the positive local impact of the Santa Clara community and the regional impact of Taylor Swift’s music, touring and exceptional fan base,” the proposed proclamation reads.
Taylor Swift knows the feeling of being named honorary mayor all too well. She received a similar honorary mayorship from the city of Tampa Bay on this tour. The News Group adds that Minneapolis changed its name to Swiftieapolis, Pittsburg changed to Swiftsburgh, and an existing Swift Street in Kansas City was renamed Swift Street (Taylor’s Version) in honor of the tour.
Single tickets for the July 28-29 shows are available from StubHub for a minimum of $940. NBC Bay Area has a copy of the Eras Tour setlist, though Swift occasionally throws in a change or a surprise number.
