The Spanish judiciary is investigating a former soldier, owner of the security company UC Global, SL Espionage against former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa at meetings he held in 2018 with former presidents of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. The reports would have been handed over to the CIA revealed the newspaper El País.
At the center of the investigation is David Moralesa former military officer hired by the Correa government (2007-2017) to handle security at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, UK, where Wikileaks founder Julian Assange lived as a fugitive. The information about his parallel activity was found on an external hard drive, on which he saved the operations and projects in which the company was involved.
Analysis commissioned by the Judge of the National Court Santiago Pedraz revealed that employees of UC Global, SL, a company based in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz (Spain), had accompanied Correa as an escort as part of A trip that he between March 18 and 24, 2018, during which he met former Presidents of Argentina Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, and Uruguay’s José Mujica.
According to the research The CIA name appears in several save files in the records of Morales, who was arrested in 2019. It was also noted that, in addition to the accounts of this voyage, there were others in English to which reference was made private meetings held by Correa at his home in Brussels, Belgium, where he settled after leaving government.
Among them is one entitled “Brussels Meetings” (Brussels Meetings, in Spanish), written on November 17, 2017, in which Morales describes the meetings and talks the former Ecuadorian President had at his residence. The report details the serial numbers of his iPad electronic devices and laptop.
The contract with the security contractor was terminated after one of Correa’s bodyguards confessed that Morales had asked her to write reports on his political and personal meetings and activities. Since then, information has reached Correa’s successor, Lenín Moreno, who became his political opponent. Morales himself confessed this to the manager of UC Global, SL, when the connection with Correa was severed.
Assange was also under investigation
Morales, in charge of security at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, asked his staff to spy on the embassy Assange meeting with their lawyers. these shots They would have been sent to the CIA. After his incarceration, the Wikileaks founder’s lawyers at hearings asked him why he wrote reports and emails in English, to which he replied that his intention was “to improve the English of his staff”.
Another clue to Morales’ alleged connection to US intelligence is an email he sent to his staff from The Venetian hotel in Las Vegas (USA) in December 2017, revealing that they had given him instructions to program the ‘streaming’ of the audio and video recordings of Assange: “[Que] Just look at what interests us […]that they cannot see who has more connections or who is connected to the system.”
more victims
The investigation of the Spanish judiciary also revealed that Morales processed information about Correa’s daughters, Sofía and Anne, who had two Trojans from Tradesegur installed on their mobile phones when their father was still President. This allowed them to stay in control of messages and conversations while the girls were studying in France.
On the other hand, a “pendrive” was found that was kept in the company headquarters safe sexual images of a member of the Ecuadorian diplomacy destined for the Embassy in London. According to one of the protected witnesses testifying in the lawsuit initiated by Assange, the photos were taken from a private hard drive of the victim, which was copied by an employee of UC Global, SL. Morales gave this material to the director of Ecuadorian intelligence, Bolívar Garcés, when he was told the contract was being terminated.
From the analysis of the WhatsApp conversations with his employees, it appears that he tried to use this material as Blackmail to avoid losing the contract. For his part, Morales explained that these photos were an accidental find during a “security analysis” of the victim’s computer, who assured that he had deleted the images from the external hard drive “many years ago”, which is why he suspects that they were deleted with the help of the Files they managed to be rescued and extort money from Garcés.
