In a special weather report released Thursday morning, the federal agency forecast 30 to 50 millimeters of rain could fall in southern Quebec, but thunderstorms could see amounts exceed 50 millimeters in certain locations.

Such forecasts have been issued for the regions of Montreal, Pontiac, Montérégie, Centre-du-Québec, Bois-Francs, Laurentides, and Lanaudière and Mauricie.

Rain is expected to continue in most of these areas on Saturday, with a chance of showers between 60% and 70%.

Several regions of Quebec were hit by thunderstorms last Thursday. In the evening, at the height of the crisis, 392,000 Hydro Quebec customers were affected by power outages.

On that day, thunderstorms, sometimes interrupted by tornadoes, moved a distance of about 450 kilometers between south Ottawa and Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade in Mauricie. Between 50 and 90 millimeters of precipitation fell in the affected regions, which led to sewage overflows and widespread flooding in several communities.
