Ben Cohen, co-founder of proudly political ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s, expressed in a recent interview his contempt for US-NATO involvement in Ukraine.

In an interview with Politico published Thursday, Cohen expressed frustration with NATO expansionism and the “military-industrial-congress complex” as aggravating factors in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“In the end, the money won,” Cohen told Politico. “And today they are not only supplying arms to all the new NATO countries, but also to Ukraine.”

“I don’t support Russia, I don’t support Ukraine,” he added. “I support negotiations to end the war instead of providing more arms to continue the war.”

Cohen, who grew up amid the tensions of the Cold War and the ill-fated US involvement in Vietnam, describes listening to legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan’s 1963 song “Masters of War” as a moment of awakening.

“It was kind of a revelation for me,” Cohen said. “I hadn’t understood that there are these masters of war – essentially I guess what we would now call the military-industrial congress complex – who profit from war.”

The ice cream mogul, who no longer controls his eponymous dessert brand, hasn’t let age slow his involvement in political protest and activism.

Cohen was arrested by Department of Homeland Security police earlier this month for blocking the entrance to the Justice Department building in Washington, DC, where he was protesting the detention of Julian Assange.

Assange is being held in Belmarsh prison in London and could soon be extradited to the US

Crime scene footage showed Cohen sitting next to a woman holding a “Free Assange” sign while police and security personnel stood nearby.

Later images released by The Associated Press showed Cohen being taken away in handcuffs by DHS officers.
