For a few days, 575 signs with the logo and the name Hôtel Maurice have been installed in front of the building on Grande Allée.
In 2022, a group of partners consisting of GSE Immobilier President Daniel Vermette, Crakmédia President Nicolas Chrétien and SOGNO Group President Yannick Parent had bought the building to convert it into a hotel.
The three partners have invested almost $15 million in the work. The opening of the new hotel complex is planned for spring 2024.
“We would have liked to have opened this summer or over the holidays, but we experienced many surprises. The building is very old. The file is not easy to manage, but that’s normal,” explains Mr. Parent.
Workers from contractor L2 are currently busy renovating the exterior including the masonry and masonry. Inside, the 27 rooms gradually take shape. “We install air conditioning in every room. In general, the site is making good progress,” says Mr. Parent.
cigar lover
As announced at the time of purchase, Le Cigare Lounge will remain in the new premises.
“We are completely renovating it. “It’s a concept that worked very well, that’s why we decided to keep it,” remarks the President of the SOGNO Group.
Yannick Parent is himself a “cigar maniac” and “eager” to tend to “the cigar, scotch and cognac menu.”
A festive and multifunctional restaurant lounge
This autumn, the future restaurant will see the light of day. Integrated into the lobby, the room becomes the heart of the hotel complex. “The place will be very pleasant, promises Mr. Parent. We see that in very big cities. »
The restaurant’s menu, to be defined, will include appetizers to share. “We want people to have a good time in a very good atmosphere. It will be very festive until 3 a.m.,” he assures.
The room layout also allows the organization of various events.
“I am very happy about the project. I’ve opened many restaurants and hotels in my career, but this is the highlight. »
— Yannick Parent, President of the SOGNO Group
“There is a lot of pressure and stress, but they came to me to create a concept. People have experienced unforgettable things in Mauritius. They will come back to life,” agrees Yannick Parent.
The building belonged to the Price family. It was also a rallying point for Maurice Duplessis’ National Union Party.
For twenty years, Maurice Night Club was also one of Quebec’s most popular nightclubs.
