Microsoft is working hard on the successor to its Surface Laptop Studio, which will be released in France in 2022. This could be announced around the start of the school year and published before winter.
The Surface Laptop Studio 2 will therefore be the successor this year and, as we saw a few months ago, is said to offer significantly higher performance than its predecessor. The Windows Central page cites some internal sources, which therefore point to an announcement within a few weeks.
A computer planned for this fall?
Codenamed “Ersa”, this new two-in-one laptop from Microsoft, aimed at artists and professionals who need large resources on their computer, could be announced as early as September or October. A time when the giant is generally unveiling its new Surface products. The release could also coincide with the launch of Windows 11 version 23H2. According to the source cited by Windows Central, the laptop could arrive around October or November.
It is also very likely that Microsoft will follow the same strategy as with the first Surface Laptop Studio of that name. Namely an initial release in the United States and Canada, then a release in a wider range of regions including France a few months later, possibly in early 2024. That was certainly the case with the previous computer. There’s little info on pricing, though, but it seems Microsoft is forgoing the Intel Core i5 processor in every configuration in favor of an i7, which could add tens or even hundreds of dollars to the base price.
A much more powerful but insufficient configuration?
We don’t really have any new information on what will be included in the Surface Laptop Studio 2 compared to what we were able to learn last February. The laptop is said to have a 13th generation Intel i7-13700H or i7-13800H processor in its high-end version. Add to that options of 16, 32, and even 64GB of RAM, making it the largest amount of storage available on such a computer, while the Surface Laptop Studio comes in at 32GB at most. Finally, instead of an RTX 3050 graphics card (already late for the time the computer was launched), the Surface Laptop Studio 2 would come with an RTX 4060 in its max configuration.
Another questionable choice. Since the computer is intended for creative professionals, such a graphics card does not seem to be sufficient for the most demanding tasks. However, the computer could rely on the capabilities of Windows Studio Effects and the company’s AI to overcome this lack of performance.
