(LaPresse) A massive explosion rocked Bree Street in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to local media, one person died and 48 were injured. Authorities estimated a five-block area was damaged and 20 cars were knocked over by the impact. Nomvula Mokonyane, chief minister of Gauteng province, said it could be a gas explosion. However, it is not yet clear whether it is due to a leak in the underground pipes or not. Johannesburg’s main gas supplier, Egoli, defended itself in a statement and made it clear that it bore no responsibility. He also added that there had been no supply disruption in the region and no leaks had been detected. (lapress)
