More than 90,000 agents will make up the police force that will ensure security at the elections
The 23-year security unit will have a total of 90,282 members of the state security forces and security corps, down 9% from municipal ones in May. Of these, 28,792 will be from the National Police (plus 99 officers from the Generalitat Valenciana unit) and the Guardia Civil will have 41,054 soldiers, the Interior Ministry said. For their part, the Mossos d’Esquadra will station 4,055 agents in Catalonia; the Ertzaintza 1,217 in the Basque Country; the Foral Police of Navarra 23 and the Police of the Canary Islands another 67. The device will be completed by 14,768 agents from different municipal police forces.
As for the Autonomous Communities, Andalusia is the country with the largest police presence, with 18,636 agents; followed by the Autonomous Community of Madrid with 10,775 soldiers; Catalonia with 9,108 agents and the Valencian Community with 9,083.
