- Kate Gosselin called her son Collin “unpredictable and violent” in a new statement to People.
- She was responding to Collin’s statements on Vice TV that his mother took out “anger and frustration” on him.
- In a statement to People, Jon, Collins’ father, criticized Kate’s “insulting words”.
Former TLC star Kate Gosselin responded after her son Collin Gosselin, 19, accused her of taking her “anger and frustration” out on him when she divorced his father Jon Gosselin in 2009. Kate had Collin institutionalized twice during his teenage and early teen years.
In a lengthy statement to People, Kate said she felt she had “no choice” but to speak out after Jon, Collin and Hannah Gosselin spoke about Kate’s alleged behavior towards Collin on Vice TV’s “Dark Side of the 2000s.”
Kate said Collin received “psychiatric diagnoses” that led her to place him in a facility at the age of 12 for her “safety” and the safety of Collins’ seven other siblings.

“The decision to admit him was made by emergency medical services following one of his many attacks/escapes – this one involving the use of a weapon,” their statement said.
In “Dark Side of the 2000s,” Jon said that when he went to one of the facilities to pick up his son, the doctors told him they “didn’t have a diagnosis yet” for Collin but would “find out.” Collin was diagnosed with ADHD.
Although Collin said he has not seen his mother since he was released from the facility, she said in her statement that Collin continues to engage in “unpredictable and violent behavior” towards “Jon, Hannah and others around him.”
She said Collin had a “distorted perception of reality” about his health issues and that his “inventions” didn’t surprise her.

“Unfortunately, I believe Collin is still a very concerned young man who continues to need a great deal of help. His brothers and sisters and I were not directly involved in his life as he had a history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies toward us.”
Collin and Hannah Gosselin did not immediately respond to insider’s individual requests for comment, which were made via Instagram.
A rep for Jon Gosselin did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

“In light of these brand new false allegations, it seems clear that even today, after not seeing her son since sixth grade, Kate is unable to control her abusive words towards him,” Jon said in a statement to People. “Collin is training to be a Marine to serve his country and is unable to respond to his mother’s callous lies.”
Collin first opened up about his mother’s confinement to Entertainment Tonight in November 2022.
When Collin was released from his last facility, he was living with his father, who was granted temporary sole custody of him in 2018. Kate reportedly didn’t show up for the custody hearing.
The Gosselin family starred on the hit TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 in the early 2000s. The show followed Jon and Kate’s adventures with their twins Mady and Cara, now 22, and sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Alexis, Aaden, Leah and Joel.
Hannah and Collin are currently living with Jon while their six other siblings live with Kate. In 2018, Collin told Entertainment Tonight that he was not in a relationship with Kate but “hoped” he would see his estranged siblings again.
