Jamie Foxx thanks his family and fans in the first video since his hospitalization: "I went to hell and back"

(CNN) – Jamie Foxx speaks for the first time since being hospitalized with an unknown illness in April.

The award-winning actor and musician posted an Instagram video update for his fans late Friday.

In the video, Foxx addresses that there has been much speculation as to what led to his hospitalization, although he has not given details of what happened.

“I know a lot of people have been waiting or wanting to hear updates, but to be honest, I just didn’t want to be seen like that, man,” he said. “I want them to laugh, have fun, party, tell a joke, see me do a movie or TV show. I didn’t want them to see me with the hoses coming out of me and trying to see if I could make it.”
Foxx credited his daughter and sister for saving his life.

“You, God, many excellent medical professionals, I can leave this video to you,” he said. “I can’t tell you how good it feels to have your family step in like that and you know they’ve made sure they’ve covered everything, they’ve missed nothing, they’ve protected me and that’s what I hope everyone can have at times like this.”

Foxx has been seen in Chicago for the past few weeks undergoing medical treatment at a center that specializes in rehabilitation treatments for patients with physical disabilities, brain injuries or spinal injuries.

Foxx clarified the rumors on social media.

“As you can see, the eyes are working, the eyes are working well. I’m not paralyzed, but I’ve been through hell and back, and my road to recovery has been bumpy, too. But I’m going back and I can work.

The video comes a few hours after Foxx posted a photo of himself riding a gold car with the caption “Great things are coming.”

The Oscar winner closed the video by saying, “I love everyone and I love all the love I’ve gotten… If you see me outside from now on and burst into tears every once in a while, it’s just because it was hard man.” I felt sick man. But now I have my legs under me, so they will accompany me.
