Singer-songwriter Lenier Mesa broke the silence about the addictions he faced, affirming that he was going through very difficult times.
In an interview with El Gordo y la Flaca, the artist explained that just over a year ago, drugs and alcohol led him down the road to perdition.
“I’ve been through a lot in my life, I’ve been through a period where I got lost on drugs, on alcohol, and in this world,” he told Hiram Vega.
“Thank God I’ve been clean and drug free for almost a year and a half. I am very happy. I almost lost my family and my children,” revealed the singer-songwriter in this interview, which he shared on his social networks.
As he explained, in order to break out of these dependencies and return to professional success, he had to make major changes in his life and work team.
“From the moment I gave up everything and I really focused, I changed my team, I have a new manager, I’m really focused on my career, all the achievements that you see have happened,” he said.
The “How do I pay you” performer reminded that the origin is in the suddenness. “Lenier comes from a different genre of music that isn’t urban music. I come from rural Cuban country music. There I took my first steps in music, which helped me a lot in composing the songs and got to know very beautiful musical things from the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, he assured that when he arrived in the United States when he was barely 16, he would have to make an effort to get ahead. “I founded a hairdressing school and graduated (…). I worked in a hair salon for about three years, a few different ones, and I did very well. I was a good barber, thank God.”
