Murder in broad daylight in Gatineau: A 19-year-old man is charged with first degree murder

The two 19-year-old men suspected of shooting dead a 50-year-old in Gatineau were formally charged on Saturday with serious criminal charges.

The intervention group of the Service de Police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) managed to handcuff the two suspects on Friday morning.

Both Colin Lamarche and Isaac Lortie appeared before the Quebec court via video conference on Saturday morning.

The director of criminal and prosecution authorized Lamarche to bring a charge of first degree murder, one of the most important in the penal code.

As for Isaac Lortie, he is accused of possessing a loaded restricted firearm without a permit or license and being an accomplice to a murder.

The police investigations are ongoing and new charges could be brought, the SPVG said.

Shots were fired on Tuesday afternoon on Boulevard Montclair near Boulevard Saint-Joseph.

Jano Gravelle was found seriously injured at the scene of the accident before later dying in a hospital.

No connection

The police could not provide any further information about the 58-year-old on Saturday. He was not known to the SPVG.

According to the latest police information, there is no evidence that the attacker and the victim knew each other.

After an intense manhunt, police were able to apprehend Lamarche and Lortie, two Gatineau residents who had not had a criminal record since they came of age.
