Vince Hill has sadly passed away at the age of 86, and tributes to the ‘music legend’ are flocking.

The singer, best known for his recording of “Edelweiss,” passed away peacefully at his home, his family announced on Friday.

His loved ones shared a statement on his Twitter account, confirming the sad news of his death and praising his “musical legacy.”

They wrote: “Unfortunately, we have to share news that none of us want to hear. We are very sorry to inform you that Vince has left us.”

“He passed away peacefully at home. Vince left a musical legacy… His tunes will stay in our hearts forever. To you, V… you damn legend xxx’

A third added: “Thoughts of Vince’s friends and family.” Vince left us a whole catalog of music for us to enjoy. TV themes, covers, collaborations and own compositions. I’m glad I took mum to see him live because he was one of her favorites.”

Vince’s close friend Les Dennis wrote, “I heard the news on the way home today and cried.” Did two summer seasons with Vince. He was brilliant on stage and more importantly he was a lovely man.

He became a singer after winning a talent contest when he was 15, but also worked as a baker, truck driver and miner before finding success.

Vince’s hits include “Look Around”, “The Rivers Run Dry”, “Daydream” and “Does’t Anybody Know My Name”.

In the 1970s he was the front-runner at the London Palladium and his hit “Edelweiss” took him to number 2 in the top 10.

Athol was found dead just hours after a car crash on black ice. Paramedics were called but could not be revived.

The father of two was met at the scene of the accident and driven to the home of his teenage daughter and her mother Liz Green in Henley-on-Thames.

Thirty-six hours later, Ms Green tried to wake him but found he had died.
