This morning died Comrade Rodolfo Puente Ferro, doctor by profession, M-26-7 fighter, member of Ches Guerrilla in Congo, ambassador to Angola and member of the Cuban Communist Party. Please offer our deepest condolences to your family and friends.
Rodolfo Puente Ferro was born in Cuba in 1921 and graduated as a doctor from the University of Havana. During his career He specialized in ophthalmology and did research on eye diseases in Cuba and other Latin American countries.
In the 1960s, Puente Ferro joined the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and became the first Cuban ambassador to the Republic of Guinea. He then also served as Cuba’s ambassador to other African countries, including Ethiopia, Zambia and Mozambique.
Puente Ferro also served as Cuba’s representative at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). He was known for his work promoting international medical collaboration and tackling poverty and inequality in developing countries.
