Heat wave: Pope Francis calls for more climate protection

Faced with the current extreme weather conditions, Pope Francis has called for concrete measures to be taken in the area of climate protection. In Italy and many other countries, people have experienced extreme weather events: unusual heat waves and devastating fires on the one hand, and storms and floods on the other, he said after Sunday’s midday prayers.

In this context, the leader of the Catholic Church renewed his appeal for more climate protection: he asked the heads of state and government to do more concrete things to limit pollutant emissions. This is an urgent challenge that concerns everyone and cannot be postponed. “Let us protect our common home!” the Pope said. As an example, he mentioned the recent flood disaster in South Korea with dozens of deaths.

As every Sunday, Francis asked for a joint prayer for peace, especially for “dear Ukraine, which continues to suffer from death and destruction – as unfortunately happened that night in Odessa”. (KNA)
