Man wins BRL 67 million in the lottery, buys team, spends money and has to go back to work Itatiaia

Mark Gardiner had earned enough to never have to work again. By winning a lottery ticket, the 61yearold Briton raked in no less than £11 million, which is R$67 million according to current quotes.

This all happened in 1995 when he won the award alongside his business partner Paul Maddison. They split the prize pool in half and one of Gardiner’s ideas was to invest in buying a football team he still owns called Hastings.

Gardiner also invested the money in a luxury home in the Caribbean to spend the holidays. These and other failed investments resulted in him losing much of the money he made and being forced to go back to work.

Eventually, he separated from his fourth wife in 2004 and resumed marriage with his first wife. He has currently taken over his glassworks business, where he works in administration and also takes orders from customers.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Brit continues to play the lottery, always using the same numbers that won him the Millionaires’ Prize in 1995.
