The head of the Russian Security Council visits South Africa

In the African capital, Patrushev will attend the 13th annual meeting of high-level officials responsible for security matters in the Brics states, the statement repeated by the Stass news agency said.

According to the information, the Russian high office will also hold a meeting in the “Friends of the Brics” format at the level of secretaries of security councils and national security advisers.

Patrushev announced the current meeting of the security representatives of the Brics countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) at a meeting with his colleagues from the group at the end of May.

At the same time, noting that Moscow is ready to further develop cooperation between the five countries in all areas, he assured that it highly appreciates the level and nature of the relations established within the framework of the association, which fully correspond to the interests of the five states.

The Johannesburg meeting will be the 13th meeting of representatives responsible for security issues in the countries of the Union. The previous meeting took place in June last year via video conference.

Traditionally, the secretaries of the security councils of the BRICS countries meet before the summit of the heads of state and government of the member states.

This year it will take place from August 22nd to 24th in the South African capital. Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the event via video conference. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will personally represent Russia.
