ESPN soccer analyst Shaka Hislop ‘OK’ after collapsing ahead of AC Milan-Real Madrid game, co-host says – CNN

Shaka Hislop before collapsing in mid-air ahead of a friendly between AC Milan and Real Madrid on Sunday.

ESPN football analyst Shaka Hislop is ‘fine’ and conscious on air after collapsing about six minutes before kick-off of AC Milan’s friendly against Real Madrid at the Rose Bowl in California on Sunday, according to his co-host.

Hislop was on camera alongside his co-host Dan Thomas, who was speaking during pre-game coverage, when Hislop stumbled forward, collided with Thomas and fell to the ground, video shows.

Thomas could be seen immediately calling for the medical staff before the show was reduced to commercials.

“He’s recovered,” commentator Adrian Healey said on the sports channel’s broadcast of the game. “I didn’t see the incident … but I’m sure it was alarming. We were clearly told that he is fine.”

Shortly after the incident, Thomas tweeted that: “Shaka is conscious. The doctors are taking care of him.”

Thomas later added that while his co-host was fine, It was “too early for any medical diagnosis”.

“Of course my buddy Shaka isn’t here, but it looks like good news,” said Thomas at half-time. “He’s conscious, he’s talking.”

“We also spoke to his family because you can imagine seeing that live. There can’t be many things that can scare you in the family… We’ve spoken to his wife and everything looks fine,” he added.

Hislop is a former goalkeeper who played for Newcastle United, and West Ham During his 15-year career, he also appeared as a starter for the Trinidad and Tobago men’s national team at the 2006 World Cup. He retired in 2007 after a season with MLS club FC Dallas.

The temperature in Pasadena, where the Rose Bowl is located, was about 86 degrees Sunday night.
