Anderson Santamaría’s Atlas FC loses temper and claims Nazi offside

With Anderson Santamaría as headline, Atlas FC defeated New York City FC 0-1 in the opening day of the 2023 League Cup. The Red and Blacks managed to maintain the lead they had gained thanks to Aldo Rocha’s early goal (7th minute) and clinched their first three points in Group N of the tournament. Although everyone is happy now, victory was in jeopardy for a few moments when Justin Haak, the Pigeons’ American midfielder, equalized in the 87th minute. However, this was annulled for offside with the help of VAR.

The disallowed goal against New York City FC sparked rumors of alleged aid to Atlas FC. At least that’s what the Mexican club’s official Twitter account suggested. In great outrage, the team accused analysts and influencers of “manipulating” people. More striking than the claim itself, however, was that he quoted Joseph Goebbels, Adolf Hitler’s former Reich Chancellor in Nazi Germany, to support his point.

The Atlas FC publication quotes a Nazi to explain an offside situation

The Atlas FC vs. New York City FC game took place on July 23 at 18:00 (Peruvian time). Attached to the publication in question, which appeared this Monday morning, is an image showing the goal duly annulled. “It is unfortunate how ‘influencers’ and ‘analysts’ manipulate media people by generating ideas of ‘supposed help,'” the CM wrote.

Though the tone of the message was already somewhat changed, what followed sparked much publicity. “If you remember what Goebbels, the Nazi information minister (Hitler’s right hand man), said, you apply it perfectly: ‘lie, lie, lie, that something will stay, the bigger a lie, the more people will believe it.'” The mixed reactions ranged from disbelief, jokes and outrage.

As if that wasn’t enough, the official Atlas account “Gabo” Montiel, popular Mexican youtuber named Werevertumorro, captivated the post. Given that, the internet personality was surprised and outraged by what happened.

How has Anderson Santamaría fared at Atlas Fc this season?

The Peruvian side’s defender has started in his side’s three games at the start of the inaugural 2023-24 MX League tournament.
